Wet Scorpio

As I watched the thumb of this outstanding photo I could not refrain from pressing the fullview button! It is really eye-catching and grabbed me for several reansons. I can list a few of them.
First of all it's a very unusual athletic pose. Many of the nude photographers I know complain about the fact it's difficult to find male models willing to pose naked as they were given birth! And they talk JUST for classical nude purposes! This is a gym position hard to be reached and held if you don't have an adeguate physical training.
I think this is the main reason for the effect of wonder it inspires to the observer.Watching the pic one is induced to wonder about the water pouring from his chin; someone argued about the fact that water is falling down but we cannot see it falling from above, in the upper side of the photo. I read the comments below the pic but that DA-member I think didn't receive a proper reply to his question. Well, I thought you wanted to keep secret your tricks, sir <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Wink)"/>

Just a few considerations. Regarding the composition I found it amazing, simple and balanced. The background maybe, that rough wall with its texture and pattern, maybe distracts and disturbs a little bit. As study shot it can work very good, but not just as a fine art piece itself. I would praise you to keep with your experiments on this kind of pose, using, if possible, photographic panels as background.

Regarding the light management: I see different shadows on the background, since where used, I think, at least, two light sources at both sides of the model. Those shadows, that way, are anoter disturbing factor. I think It can be avoided by changing the light scheme as well as the backgroud (if the model is able to stand like that without help from the wall behind I'd also keep him further from it). It's all about trying. Trying, keeping on trying, and experimenting.

Looking at the pic more closely I can see the model is not perfectly focused. At first I thought it could be due to the position and tensed muscles, but immediately after I reminded about an article I read some days ago, about a young American Photographer, named Peddecord, that is a dance performances photographer. He's able to catch fast flying dancers'bodies as they were stone statues suspended in the air. You must absolutely look for him on the web. I'm sure you'll appreciate his work!
I gave a look at the exif data listed in the right column of the deviation. Actually I think 1/15 sec is not enough to capture properly a body tensed in such a critic position. Slightly Higher ISO speed and faster shutter speed might be solutions to be investigated.

These are just theoric consideratins, since I don't know if I were able to take an amazing shot like this with a camera in my hand.
